It is with regret that we must announce that the United Way of Northern Arizona and our partners have decided to close our VITA sites for the remainder of the 2019 tax season.
Last month when we announced the suspension of services for three weeks, we sincerely hoped that we’d be able to resume the program at this time. However, as the spread of COVID-19 became a pandemic and orders to stay at home were extended, it became clear that we could not restart the program without endangering both our volunteers and the residents we hoped to assist.
We apologize for any inconvenience this causes those who planned to use our services.
Fortunately, as most of you know, the deadline for filing both state and federal income taxes has been extended to July 15, with no interest or penalties charged against amounts due between April 15 and July 15.
There are also alternatives for our residents to pursue in lieu of our VITA program:
- Northland Free Tax Help (928-221-4977) is offering a drop-off tax assistance service.
- MyFreeTaxes.com has free tax filing for both federal and state returns. The services help and chat lines are available from 10 am – 10 pm (EST) daily.
- Both IRS.gov and AZDOR.gov offer free online tax filing.
