United Way of Northern Arizona update for May 8

United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA) is working with its agency and government partners to help local residents coping with the destruction being caused by the Tinder Fire.
The Tinder Fire has burned more than 16,000 acres in the Blue Ridge area,  destroying numerous structures. As of latest reports, the blaze was 79% contained.
Efforts are now shifting toward rebuilding. You can help by contributing to the 2018 Fire Fund that has been established by UWNA through our website at nazunitedway.org or by texting “2018Fire” to 41444.
UWNA is requesting that donors give funds as opposed to goods, said UWNA President & CEO Steve Peru.
“While the outpouring of generosity shown by donating water, food and other goods is greatly appreciated, cash donations are the most effective way to help at this time,” said Peru, who noted that 100 percent of donations to the 2018 Fire Fund would go to qualifying agencies which provide direct support to families.
Volunteer with UWNA
In Blue Ridge, the support shown by friends and neighbors rallying around those who lost their homes to the Tinder Fire is a heartening example of community unity.
But we have been warned time and again that this may be a very active wildfire season this year, and want to build up a list of volunteers who can help should disaster strike again in northern Arizona. Please consider registering as a volunteer who can be called upon in times of emergency.
.
You can register to volunteer by filling out this application form and mailing it to volunteer@nazunitedway.org. You can also call the Volunteer Line at (928) 773-9813 ext. 219 for further information.
