Last month, politicians in Washington allowed hyper-partisan gridlock to get in the way of a bipartisan funding bill that would keep our government from shutting down. Now, as we go into the new year, hundreds of thousands of employees — border patrol agents, national park employees, Farm Service Agency staffers, and corrections officers — are working without pay or have been sent home. This shutdown has caused uncertainty and concern for these families.
Congress has worked hard to pass a bipartisan measure to prevent this reckless shutdown, but the Administration has refused to sign anything that does not include billions of your taxpayer dollars for a border wall. I support passing this bipartisan bill that includes funding for 21st century border security technology.
We need to open the government and give the hardworking men and women who serve our communities the stability they deserve.
