Third County COVID-19 Testing Blitz collects 398 specimens

COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County collected 398 tests for COVID-19 at the third Testing Blitz event held Saturday, May 16 at the Coconino Health and Human Services location in Flagstaff.

Coupled with the first two testing blitz events, the County has collected 1098 number of total tests.

“Battling the COVID-19 pandemic is the top priority of the County and testing is our first key indicator for the spread of the virus,” said Coconino County Supervisor Liz Archuleta, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “Thank you to all the Country residents and tourists that came to be tested. The County thanks all of our team for their incredible work and organization along with our partners at Flagstaff Police Department, Arizona National Guard, City of Flagstaff, TGen, and Northern Arizona Healthcare, along with many others.”

Specimens collected at the blitz were sent to TGen North. Once results are received Coconino County Health and Human Services will notify those tested of results throughout the week.

Testing is available at Fort Tuthill County Park Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for those with COVID-19 symptoms or a medical order. Testing will be closed at Fort Tuthill on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

“In tradition with typical Memorial Day celebrations, it is likely that friends and family will be gathering,” stated Dr. Marie Peoples, the COVID-19 Incident Commander for Coconino County. “We encourage all residents to continue to follow guidance and precautions to wash hands frequently, wear masks, practice physical distancing while at social events, and to skip the celebratory events, if sick over the holiday. The County needs everyone’s help to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19.”

The County will continue the Testing Blitz event on Saturday, May 30 for any person that wishes to be tested. Details will be forthcoming.
