The Book of Will —October 4 – 20

The Book of Will is a play by Lauren Gunderson that tells the story of William Shakespeare’s friends, Henry Condell, John Heminges and others, who are determined to preserve his work after his death. The play, set in Elizabethan London, takes place three years after Shakespeare’s death, when his plays are being pirated and performed incorrectly.

“Like many Shakespeare fans, I had no idea that his plays were nearly lost forever! They were saved by the monumental efforts of the members of his theatre company after his death. It’s a fascinating and entertaining true story that I think audiences will really enjoy,” said Director Stan Sutherland.

The production comes to life in Flagstaff with a cast of 14 performers, open to patrons aged six and up. Justin Phillips who plays John Heminges said, “This play brings the man of Shakespeare into the room, not only through his works, but through the impact he had on the people around him. He may not show up as a character, but he is in every word of this play and it shows the extraordinary efforts of his friends to preserve his legacy.” Rook Feld who plays Isaac Jaggard added, “This show brings us an intimate, generous, and downright funny perspective on Shakespeare’s social life.”

The Book of Will runs October 4-20.

A Message from the Interim Executive Director

Bruce Fox

Dear Northern Arizona Patron of the Arts,

Greetings!

To start, please allow me to introduce myself: I’m Bruce Fox and I feel honored to be serving as the Interim Executive Director of Theatrikos as we transition the organization to a new full-time Executive Director.

One reason for this feeling is the many exciting things happening at the theater that I get to be a part of. Although Annie, one of our most popular shows ever, just closed (I hope you saw it), our Theatrikids production of Diary of a Wimpy Kid runs through September 1.

Our next mainstage production, The Book of Will, is in rehearsal, and we have auditions for Elf on September 15 and 16. Our Downtown Films series is in full swing. We show films on Mondays, focusing on local Flagstaff filmmakers, and on Wednesdays in partnership with the Sedona International Film Festival.

Oh…and Sneak Peek is on September 14 where our 2025 Season will be revealed.

A second reason is that I am part of a great organization with a long history of over 50 years serving the artistic environment of our community. So, a personal favor: please keep supporting Theatrikos so we can continue to bring such great art to Flagstaff.

See you at the theater!

Thank you,

Bruce E. Fox
