The Book of Will —October 4 – 20

Without William Shakespeare, we wouldn’t have literary masterpieces like Macbeth, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. But without Henry Condell and John Heminges, we would have lost nearly all of Shakespeare’s plays forever! After the death of their friend and mentor, the two actors are determined to compile the First Folio and preserve the words that shaped their lives. They’ll just have to borrow, beg, and band together to get it done. Amidst the noise and color of Elizabethan London, The Book of Willfinds an unforgettable true story of love, loss, and laughter, and sheds new light on a man you may think you know. “As I was preparing for the character, what really struck me was the amount of loss he had experienced in his life. He had nine children with his wife and only three made it to adulthood. I imagine the words of Shakespeare helped him process, understand and survive all of that grief. He couldn’t allow the words that had meant so much to him to be lost to time and it drove him to preserve the words which immeasurably influenced the world in which we live more than 400 years later.” Said Kyle Cawood who plays Henry Condell.

Book of Will runs through October 20.

A Message from the Education Director

Joe Maniglia

Greetings,

I’m Joe Maniglia and as the Education Director for Theatrikos Theatre Company and more specifically, the TheatriKids’ program, many of you may not know about one of our most successful endeavors at the theatre. Back in 2003, Theatrikos stalwart, Jan Rominger developed and founded the TheatriKids’ program. For the past 22 years, it has given opportunities for youth to explore their talents and develop their skills. In fact, for this past season, each and every Main Stage show has had at least one (if not more) TheatriKids alum in the cast.

I’m entering my 15th season as TheatriKids’ Education Director, and we have a doozy of upcoming events to close out the year. First up, Richard Adams’ award winning novel, Watership Down has been adapted into a play and will be performed October 25th – November 3rd. This drama tells the story of English rabbits (that’s right, you heard me, rabbits) who go on a quest to find a new home. A sort of “Bunny-Lord-of-the-Rings” adventure.

Our award-winning program, “Stage Buddies” began 10 years ago as the brainchild of TheatriKid Areya Kugler. We’re holding auditions for enrolled members of the Performance Workshop, The Hunchback of Notre Dame on November 10th and 11th.

Also, as we close out our year, we are offering a weeklong Winter Camp, Dec. 30-Jan. 4 at the theater run by longtime Theatrikos/TheatriKids’ veteran, Kenlynn Shields. We hope if your 6–12-year-old budding all-star is around then that they’ll take advantage of our popular ACT DANCE SING camps offered for the first times over the holidays.

Lots of goings-on for kids of ALL ages at the theatre and I hope to see you there soon!
