One of the treasures of American theatre, and the basis for Jimmy Stewart’s Academy Award winning movie, Harvey runs January 26—February 11, 2024

Theatrikos Theatre Company brings Mary Chase’s Harvey to the Flagstaff stage. A lovable and eccentric Pulitzer Prize winning classic American comedy about a perfect gentleman and his very strange best friend—a six foot tall invisible rabbit named Harvey. A charming, delightful and enchanting testimony towards the value of kindness over the importance of conventionality.
Harvey’s Broadway debut ran for 1,775 performances. It has been revived on Broadway and London’s West End numerous times and has played all over the world. There have been three television adaptations and the famous Academy Award winning movie starring Jimmy Stewart.
“Modern audiences will relate to this comedy because of its universal theme that we all create our own reality,”said director Mark Dessauer. “People love the movie with Jimmy Stewart and our production will be just as charming.”
“Harvey is a fun, comedic and heartwarming production, that will captivate the audience and have them questioning what really is important in their day to day lives,” said actor Daniel Wilson who plays Elwood P. Dowd, the Jimmy Stewart character. “This production touches on some topics that would be considered edgy with modern audiences, however, in the end, notions such as love, compassion and kindness will resonate with audience members and leave them with a smile!”
“Laughing during rehearsals because of our talented cast” is a laugher that will be infectious with the audience Dessauer said. Wilson agrees, saying, “There are some amazing individuals in this production, each bringing a little something different to the table.”
Performances of Harvey are January 26—February 11, 2024.

Annual Membership Renewal

Ticket sales are always Theatrikos’ most important source of revenue. But ticket sales alone don’t balance the budget. Now’s the time to renew your annual membership. Memberships range from $50/yr to $20,000/yr. Thank you for your support of theatre in Northern Arizona.

Like most theatres, Theatrikos shows are for ages 6+. It’s usually not a content issue. It’s just that the shows are usually about two hours long. We love it when kids of all ages come to see our TheatriKids performance workshops. Kids seeing other kids on stage is a great way to develop a love of theatre.

Stage Buddies Creates Joy and Camaraderie
|
|
|
|
A very special TheatriKids activity is Stage Buddies, in which TheatriKids student actors mentor peers with special needs in a musical theatre production. This gives actors with special needs unique dramatic opportunities and outlets for their creativity, and the mentors gain an understanding of the challenges faced by their special-needs partners. Sometimes actors are siblings, allowing them a common experience they don’t often have.
TheatriKids education director Joe Maniglia explains that these programs exist nationally. “We are not aware of any other productions like ours in Flagstaff. To sit in a Stage Buddies’ performance is like no other theatrical experience. Each song is anticipated and cheered. Every performer is rooted for and supported. There are no casual observers. Parents are watching with tears in their eyes as their child who may struggle to communicate is playing a role or singing a song and having a wonderful time. The audience has a front-row seat to view what these youth can accomplish. It opens a path for understanding our differently abled population.”
Stage Buddies was started in 2014 by Areya Kugler, a Viola emerging-artist winner, when she was in high school. It is supported by volunteers, grants, and underwriters to allow tuition-free participation.
This program means a lot to parent Windy Kestay, whose two children have participated together, experiencing their differences in abilities. She finds Stage Buddies “uniquely inclusive”, allowing her son to “participate fully with a diverse group of friends. I appreciate everyone who makes it possible.”
Stage Buddies’ Rumpelstiltskin will be on stage at Theatrikos’ playhouse January 5-7.
