Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.
Join NAU as we honor Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights work that has continued since his death. The theme this year is “Daring to Dream: Elevating the Imagination for a New Generation” and echoes NAU’s aims to elevate excellence by committing to educate, support, and empower students, faculty, staff and our NAU community from all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences to reach their full potential and contribute to a more just, equitable, inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable future.
Martin Tease, the coordinator for the MLK planning committee, reiterated an oft-shared Dr. King quote to describe the importance of these events: “People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”
The Office of Inclusion and other campus and community partners will host a breakfast that ends with a commemorative march through the NAU campus. Opportunities for community service engagement will be provided after the march, with the day culminating in a Resource and Club Mixer at the IMQ Center in the University Union Fieldhouse.
