Sedona Arts Center — Sedona Plein Air Festival 2020 All-Woman Painting Event

The event took place October 24-31, 2020, a first of its kind—all woman, and  Virtual Plein Air Festival! Artist Panel Discussion: “The Process of Art”
LIVE, Online Event! Wednesday, October 28, 2020 | 5 pm
In the midst of the festival week each artist will each be discussing one of the paintings they have completed thus far in the festival during a panel discussion by the artists on Wednesday October 28th at 5pm Arizona time. The theme, “The Process of Art ” allows artists to focus attention on any aspect of the process, from the discovery of subject matter to composition, to brushwork and color choices. The public is invited to participate in this live-broadcast meeting which will end with a Q&A session. Links to all streamable content can be found on both the festival and Arts Center’s websites.

Painting the Urban Landscape with Pastels

The urban landscape is a rich motif to explore composition in value and color. Pastels give us the direct immediacy of a drawing and the rich, organic pigment of oil paint. Through the Zoom platform, Nancie will share her rapid methods for simplifying cityscapes to get past the complexities of this sometimes intimidating motif.

Sedona Arts Center — Vince Fazio to leave Sedona Arts Center

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors announces the departure of Vince Fazio as Executive Director of the Sedona Arts Center. We have been fortunate to have a leader with passion, creative vision and strong business acumen to be at the helm of our organization the past three years. Under his leadership we have experienced growth across the full spectrum of the Arts Center’s many dimensions, including the Fine Art Gallery, School and Special Events.

The workshop itself will be three lively mornings exploring the relationship between drawing and observation, examining how close and clarified observation can hone our visually analytical minds, regardless of what it is we are looking at.

This year the Sedona Arts Center is celebrating ‘The Year of the Woman’ by creating special exhibitions for women artists like Magic and Dreams a juried exhibition that features the work of women artists in Arizona.

Join us on Facebook Friday, June 19th at 4:00pm for a free Studio Tour with Stuart Shils. He’ll be interviewed by Chuck Spence, Vice President of our Board of Directors. We will be looking at how Stuart’s work has evolved from the past into the present and discussing the unique content that he brings to his popular workshops. Stuart will be teaching a virtual workshop “Re-framing the Ordinary” July 17th and 18th. (see below under Online Classes)

Sedona Arts Center is OPEN!

The Sedona Arts Center has reopened its Fine Art Gallery and live in-person classes to the public with a Covid-19 protocol of: ongoing sanitation, social distancing, following government guidelines, and wearing face masks in our indoor public spaces. New gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. The Administrative offices will remain closed to the public at this time, please call 928-282-3809 for assistance or call the gallery at 928-282-3865.

Gain the confidence to be a painter – Online!

From the beginning to the experienced student, this one-day class (May 22) in oil or acrylic will guide and teach students how to approach the painting process with confidence, while exploring the basics of value-pattern, composition and color. Students may work from life and/or photos. Instructor demonstrations and lots of individual attention provided.

Join us on Facebook for a Live Event in the Ceramics Studio!  Dennis Ott will be leading a virtual tour of the ceramics studio and demonstrating the process for creating a Loving Bowl. The live demonstration on the potter’s wheel is the same one that is given on the first day of a Ceramics Class. Dennis will then walk you through the rest of the process involved in producing each Loving Bowl, including glazing and firing and packing it away till December when we sell them for $10.00 each benefiting multiple local non-profits.
