NAU News — Graduate Steven Hernandez Jr.: NAU employee-turned-Lumberjack-grad took expertise to the classroom

Hernandez, who works as a business analyst in Academic Affairs, transferred from Coconino Community College. Besides doing the normal student activities, he found ways to put his work experience to use in the classroom and what he learned in the classroom to use in his job.

NAU News — Student Spotlight: Ayla Martinez

Ayla Martinez, graduate researcher with the Center for Ecosystem Science and Society will join “Picture a Scientist,” a panel discussion presented during the Flagstaff Festival of Science. The panel, composed of active Flagstaff scientists at a variety of career stages, will discuss their diverse experiences navigating STEM fields. The discussion will be held via Zoom at 4 p.m. on Sept. 20.

NAU News — NAU researchers launch first large-scale study of tooth decay among minority preschoolers

With funding through the Southwest Health Equity Research Collaborative, Northern Arizona University researchers are partnering with the University of Hawai’i to investigate biological, socioeconomic factors driving early childhood caries.

NAU News — NAU students, staff team up to make 25,000 care kits for students and employees statewide

The care kits, which include two NAU-branded masks, hand sanitizer and a thermometer, will be distributed to NAU students to help promote a safe campus. Inside the kits, students also will find a hand-written note from one of the dozens of staff members or student workers who assembled the kits.

A “March for Community Health” will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 23 starting at the Flagstaff City Hall. Please wear a mask and observe physical distancing guidelines.
