STEM City 10th Anniversary

August marks the 10th Anniversary of STEM City

and Flagstaff’s designation as “America’s First STEM Community.”

STEM City was conceived out of a shared community vision to recognize, celebrate,

and expand the tremendous human and capital assets in

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) that exist in Flagstaff.

Now, ten years later, STEM City is proud to have facilitated:

–Nine annual community-wide STEM Celebrations

–Annual STEMMY Awards recognizing numerous STEM Students, Teachers & Organizations

–Direct student engagement in STEM learning through classroom partnerships

with local experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

We’ll celebrate this 10th Anniversary with various events throughout the coming months

to revitalize Flagstaff’s well-earned designation as “America’s First STEM Community.”

STEM Celebration 2022

This year’s STEM Celebration—held April 30th at Fort Tuthill—was a great success,

with 65 exhibitors and more than 1,200 attendees!

Nearly 60% of attendees spent two to three hours exploring, and 83% rated the event “Awesome!”

Families came from throughout the Flagstaff area and Williams,

as well as Phoenix, Tucson and even South Bend, Indiana!

Full STEAM Ahead

Imagine a classroom of 7th graders working with a local contractor and engineer to design and model a city of the future.

Or a 4th grade classroom working with a biologist to develop ideas to protect an endangered species of the Colorado Plateau.

Or an Indigenous artist teaching sustainability and the use of natural materials and dyes to high school art students.

That’s the premise behind Full STEAM Ahead . . . to bring local professionals into classrooms

to open the world of STEM possibilities to students.

Register now as a classroom teacher or community professional to engage students

in this exciting learning opportunity for the upcoming school year.
