Through Nov. 20 — Next 12-week Basic Business Empowerment class to be held in Flagstaff

Individual Development Accounts (IDA) matching grants for business, college education also available

FLAGSTAFF — Coconino County Community Services’ (CCCS) 12-week (36-hour) Basic Business Empowerment (BBE) training is offered for Coconino County residents 18-years of age and older.

Its purpose is to assist those who want to start, improve, and/or expand a micro-business — five or fewer employees and typically requiring less than $35,000 of start-up capital. We currently partner with the Coconino Small Business Development Center to provide primary facilitation for the training.

The next BBE training will be presented 6-9pm, Tuesday evenings, through Nov. 20, at the County Health and Community Services Building (2625 N. King St., Flagstaff, AZ 86004). BBE training includes information about an Individual Development Accounts (IDA) match saving grant opportunity for income and asset eligible Coconino County residents. You are welcome to forward this information to whoever may be interested.

Prior to approving an applicant’s enrollment they need to also complete a short online assessment of their entrepreneurial capacity by clicking HERE.

We use this to score and gauge how suited potential BBE candidates are for business start-up and ownership.

After completing the assessment applicants print, scan, and attach (or copy and paste) their total and section scores into a reply email to me or into a Word document attached to it. (Please note that the assessment website is not connected with the BBE program so we don’t encourage applicants to provide their e-address, unless they want to receive solicitation from them.)

Lastly, enrollment is not complete until CCCS receives and approves a candidate’s application, any required supporting documents, and the $125 registration fee. The last page of the application requests financial information required by our funders and is also used to determine eligibility for our 50% BBE training scholarship, and pre-screening for the match saving grant opportunity. The class fee must be paid in person with cash or check to reserve a seat in the class.
