Abstract Figurative Workshop – Online!
with Robert Burridge
January 25 – 27, 2021
This workshop pushes you out of your safe zone and into a brand new, looser, abstract direction drawing, painting and collaging the contemporary nude. You will learn expressive painting techniques for the modern painter. If you ever wanted to learn how to paint the freestyle abstract figure, this workshop is for you. Color is explained and explored. You will learn 12 Design Compositions for a successful painting. Your “drawing the nude” skills are not a prerequisite.

The second day of the workshop will include working directly with the live model in a variety of poses VIA ZOOM including the nude, draped and partially draped scenarios, lots of paint sketching, gestural drawing and finger painting techniques. Be prepared to paint looser, bolder, freer, lighter and more intuitively. Plenty of time for action-filled painting exercises, demos and personalized attention.

Honest Art
with Jodie King
April 16 – 19, 2021
Join Jodie in magical Sedona Arizona for a special experience. Jodie King’s workshops are best known for being honest and fun as well as practical and informative. She openly shares her personal painting techniques and creative process; yet, her relaxed teaching style helps artists let go of fear in order to create raw, free, and honest work.

While this workshop covers such topics as composition, color, value, and mark making, the real juice comes from the teachings about the creative process and how to embrace our own intuition as an artist. Through daily demonstrations, meditation and journaling, you will leave with a better understanding of embracing freedom in art and in life.

Painting Pastel Landscapes
with Lorenzo Chavez
April 23 – 25, 2021
This workshop will stress the fundamentals of landscape painting outdoors with the special Sedona landscape as our backdrop.

Pastel is a great sketching medium—its consistency of color and quick handling are valuable when working outdoors. The importance of simplifying the landscape and composing on location will be discussed and applied. Theme emphasis, values, colors, edges, emotional involvement, atmospheric and linear perspective will be discussed. All three days will be spent in the field where we can observe and study the outdoors first hand. This is the single most important method for improving landscape painting skills.

Demonstrations will be done for the group and critiques will be conducted on an individual basis. Plenty of personal attention is the goal of the instructor.

Creating the Abstract Landscape
with Amanda Hawkins
May 21 – 23, 2021
There is a sweet spot of overlap between the traditions of abstraction and contemporary landscape painting where mark-making and the implications of planar structure combine with color and light to create a magical realm of newly discovered space.

Transform Sedona’s beautiful scenery into rich, energetic, abstract landscape paintings. My approach to abstraction is both structured and intuitive, meant to give students the tools and confidence to take risks and make informed decisions on the canvas, both in the workshop and long after our time together. Each morning we will explore and experiment with warm-up exercises, and each afternoon will be used as open studio time with ample individual attention. Over the course of the workshop, we will create several color studies, a series of miniature abstracts, and 2-3 larger abstract landscape paintings; all led by demonstration
