SPECIAL EVENT
Historical Preservation Party
Friday, May 17, 2019    5–7pm
In January of 2018 the Historic Preservation Commission adopted the Historic Resource Recognition Award Program.   The program was created to provide a method for recognizing properties possessing historical, architectural, or aesthetic merit but do not meet the requirements to qualify to be Landmarked under the city’s Historic Preservation requirements.   The Sedona Arts Center Art Barn will be the first property to be awarded a Historic Resource Recognition plaque.   The Sedona Arts Center Art Barn has long been a central element of art, cultural, and community in Sedona.  With the granting of this award its place in history within the community will be celebrated.

“The Sedona Arts Center is delighted to be the first recipient of the Historic Resource Award Program. We have been a dynamic resource for arts education and exhibition for locals and visitors alike for over 60 years!  Please join us on May 17th to celebrate this special designation by the Historic Preservation Commission. Browse our gallery, enjoy refreshments and we’ll provide tours of the Center profiling all that we do while pointing out interesting new areas of growth and development.” – Vince Fazio, Executive Director

The Sedona Arts Center Art Barn will be the first property to be awarded a Historic Resource Recognition plaque.
Please join us for refreshments at 5 pm on Friday, May 17th to celebrate this tremendous honor.

SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS
Summer Kids Camp
The Art of Filmmaking
June 3 – 14, 2019 (Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm)
Kelli Klymenko & Bryan Reinhart
SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE*

Summer Art of Filmmaking Camps at Sedona Arts Center provide a rich artistic environment for youth ages 10 to 14 yrs old. Instructed by Bryan Reinhart and Kelli Klymenko, students begin by deconstructing scenes from contemporary favorites, examining all the aspects that make a scene work. Students then develop their own story line to bring to the big screen.

Students will explore writing, story development, acting, camera work, lighting, editing, graphics and presentation. The process creates a great opportunity for students to discover new interests and skill sets. The camp culminates in a screening of the final film but students have the opportunity to create their own individual edit during camp from the footage they have developed together.

(Check out last year’s films on our YouTube channel here)

*Scholarship awards will pay 50% towards any Class or Workshop tuition. Scholarships are not available for international Field Expeditions or Painting in the Grand Canyon. The Sedona Arts Center awards scholarships to students only when funds are available.

June 11 – 20, 2019
Cyndi Thau
“Glaze Your Way to a Beautiful Painting”

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

All Materials Included!

Color, Light, Shadow, Translucency – These are the ingredients that we will work with to create a beautiful painting for you to take home. Our subject will be flowers and using the glazing technique we will apply thin layer upon layer of oil paint to achieve the depth and translucency associated with all things in nature.

Students will be taught how to choose a composition, transfer it to the canvas and then begin the process of laying in color. This class will be taught in four sessions to allow for critical drying time between layers. We will focus on light and shadow, paying attention to brushwork and edges as we build up the design. Paintings will be done on a gallery wrap canvas and students will be given a choice of images to work from. Attention to detail is important and even more critical is the use of light and shadow to form the shapes while laying in color to complete the design.
