2019 Juried Members’ Exhibition Creativity Award Winners
Marti McNamee – Figurative Flower I

Our three jurors each chose three works to receive “Creativity Awards”  see all the winners below. The Exhibition continues through March 31st. The above work by Marti McNamee received a Creativity Award and sold at the opening reception! Marti credits her success with this piece to techniques she learned in a workshop she took from Robert Burridge a couple years ago. Robert Burridge’s Figurative Abstraction workshop is offered again June 26 – 28, 2019.

“Loosen up, play, explore and see what comes forth. Bob Burridge’s Abstract Figurative Class and Pash’s Life Drawing group have inspired this piece.  Bob encourages a themed approach, painting what you love, thus became the figurative flower.  A unique way of presenting the painting comes from Bob as well. This mixed media piece was created on watercolor paper with gesso. It is glued on a wooden panel with coats of varnish.  So fun!”  – Marti

A SELECTION OF SPRING ART WORKSHOPS
Abstract Figurative Workshop
June 26 – 28, 2019
Robert Burridge
This workshop pushes you out of your safe zone and into a brand new, looser, abstract direction drawing, painting and collaging the contemporary nude. You will learn expressive painting techniques for the modern painter. If you ever wanted to learn how to paint the freestyle abstract figure, this workshop is for you. Color and design are explored as through the 12 Design Compositions for a successful painting. Your “drawing the nude” skills are not a prerequisite. Plenty of time for action-filled painting exercises, demos and personalized attention.

The Story in the Still Life
April 5 – 7, 2019
Scott Conary
We’ll work on small still life paintings to explore the process – from thumbnail sketches, lighting the subject, considerations of composition, to the application of paint to build form with light, color and mark. We will walk the line between technique and intuition, using the still life as a way to explore paint and why we make art. Finding what interests us in a subject and how we connect to it drives that story, and directs how the painting is made.
