Abstract/Figurative 3-Day Online Workshop
An Online Workshop with Robert Burridge
January 25 – 27, 2021 This workshop pushes you out of your safe zone and into a brand new, looser, abstract direction drawing, painting and collaging the contemporary nude. You will learn expressive painting techniques for the modern painter. If you ever wanted to learn how to paint the freestyle abstract figure, this workshop is for you. Color is explained and explored. You will learn the 12 Design Compositions for a successful painting. Your “drawing the nude” skills are not a prerequisite.

Classes will include a variety of poses with the nude, draped and partially draped model, lots of paint sketching, gestural drawing and finger painting techniques. Be prepared to paint looser, bolder, freer, lighter and more intuitively. Plenty of time for action-filled painting exercises, demos and personalized attention. All water soluble paints are welcomed. Materials list and Handouts provided.

What students had to say about this workshop:

“Bob and Kate executed the virtual course so that each participant was able to clearly observe demos, see the model, and participate in the group. His demos were very helpful as was his overall advise and instruction to artists at all levels.”

“Bob presents ideas clearly, effectively demonstrates concepts, and does so with great zest and personal engagement. He is clearly talented and reflects a genuine concern and interest in his students”

“Very clear teaching style, easy to understand, the lessons built upon one another in a logical way.”

“He is a really good teacher and also so kind, warm, and encouraging. It’s also nice having Kate there running the technology aspects of the workshop, and fielding questions.”

The Inspired Abstract – Online Workshop
An Online Workshop with Julie Bernstein Engelmann
February 22 – 25, 2021 (Monday – Thursday)
10:00 – 3:30 daily, Arizona time (with short lunch break),

This four-day workshop gives you a powerful foundation for abstract painting. Using layers, you’ll be guided to enter the painting process naturally, develop a deep and luscious visual space, and weave into it exquisite brush-marks that grow from a personally meaningful inspiration. You’ll learn to see the spirit in your painting and gently enhance it, so it can shine powerfully.

A focus of this workshop is to find ease in bringing your mid-process “beautiful abstract mess” to completion. You’ll create two acrylic paintings that embody meaning, naturalness, and spatial depth and flow – qualities that lift an abstract painting from amateur to professional. The schedule allows for those who wish to work outside of the class more time to do so.

What students had to say about this workshop:

“Julie does a wonderful job teaching a great approach to creating a meaningful and successful abstract painting! I love the 2 paintings that I made in this workshop! Everyone in the class came away with very special paintings unique to them! The class was fun, informative, and supportive!”

“The Zoom format allowed for immediate engagement in the workshop process. Sutra allowed for follow-up and the posting of photos that could be shared by all the participants at their own pace.”

“The online format went surprisingly well! I loved the convenience and comfort of being in my own home, yet meeting other students from all over the country! The camera placement, screen sharing with annotation function on Zoom, and Julie’s videos, resources, and hand-outs all took good advantage of the online situation.”
