A Plein Air Afternoon

Paint and painting panels are generously provided by Gamblin Artist Colors, and Ampersand Art Panels.

Join artist and Gamblin Color Expert, Anna Fox Ryan for an afternoon of plein air painting on the Sedona Arts Center Campus. Participants will each receive 2 Ampersand panels, and unlimited Gamblin paints. We will explore two different variations of a ‘landscape limited palette’.  Artists will start with a simplecompositional sketch of a landscape then see how two different palettes create different moods and color options. A chance to take a risk and have fun.

Artists should bring palette knives, brushes, and plein air easels if they have them.

Plein Air to Studio Demonstration
October 18, 2019  9 am – 1 pm
Join in the last session of Dave Santillanes’ 3.5-day workshop during the 15th Annual Sedona Plein Air Festival (Oct 12 – 19, 2019). Dave is the Keynote Speaker and judge for this year’s festival. This half-day demonstration takes you through a studio process as Dave works up a larger painting from a plein air study. This demonstration will be a wonderful overview of the painting process, a learning experience for collectors and painters alike.

This will be a stand-alone demonstration as well as a culmination of the workshop for those that attended.

The Sedona Arts Center’s ceramic department operates free from the constraints of grades and benefits from the talents of its ceramic faculty and assistants as well as nationally recognized guest instructors. This combination allows our department to offer flexible and diverse programming in both traditional and contemporary techniques.

Through demonstration and one-on-one instruction, students will learn to throw a variety of forms on the potter’s wheel or techniques to create hand-built works. Slab roller, extruder and forms are also available to create functional and decorative pieces. Tuition includes the first 25-pound bag of clay, firings and glazes, and one open studio session per week.

Comic Book Crash Course
October 26 – 27, 2019

Ever wanted to make a comic book?  This course is for the student who has always wanted to be Stan Lee or Jack Kirby.  Learn the ins and outs on how to write, pencil, ink, and letter a comic book.  Learn from Sedona-based comic book artist/cartoonist, Jan Marc “The Janimal” Quisumbing, former art director with New York City-based comic book publisher Pronto Comics and current president of the Northern Arizona Cartoonist Association, and from DC and Marvel Comics veteran, Dave Beaty, whose credits include Justice League, Batman Incorporated, Wonder Woman, and X-Men.

The end goal will be for students to produce a fully drawn page of sequential art.  Open to all kids 12-15 years old.

Sedona Arts Center is one of Northern Arizona’s most well-established cultural organizations and serves as the creative heart of Sedona. Founded in 1958, the nonprofit organization is based at the Art Barn in Uptown and offers year-round classes, exhibitions, festivals, and cultural events that enhance the creative life of the Verde Valley.
