FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff’s Community Development Division will host an update and listening meeting for the Rio de Flag Flood Control Project on Aug. 22. The meeting will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at City Hall, 211 W. Aspen Avenue.
In May of 2017, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) allocated $1 million in work program funding to the Rio de Flag project. This funding has allowed the USACE to resume work on design plans for the project. The purpose of these plans is to reduce the projected damages and economic losses of a major flood event by containing the 100-year flood within the proposed improvements
The meeting will begin with a brief presentation outlining the project location, purpose, history and funding. Also included in the presentation will be a description of the proposed “composite channel” for the upper reach segment from Bonito Street to Aspen Avenue.
After the presentation, the meeting will move to an “Open House” format to address individual questions and foster discussion. City and USACE staff will be on hand to present project information, address questions and take comments.
