Blueprint 2040 identifies the transportation investments needed to support the land use and economic development goals set forth in the Flagstaff Regional Plan 2030: Place Matters. The RTP recommends transportation projects and services to be delivered using conservative estimates of funding available between 2020 and 2040. The RTP defines a multimodal transportation system: roads, transit, bicycle facilities, the pedestrian realm, and freight movement. It adds details to the regional transportation system at the plan and policy level, bridging the gap between the aspirational policies of Place Matters and the transportation facility details contained in city and county engineering standards. Blueprint 2040, with input from the public and stakeholders, determines how the various transportation modes work together to create a comprehensive regional transportation system supportive of goals for land use, economic development, recreation, and the environment.
Jurisdictions that make up the FMPO are the City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA) and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The next two years holds great portent for transportation in the region. The information and recommendations in Blueprint 2040 will likely be the basis for key transportation partnerships and funding discussions that will begin in earnest in 2017.The public’s input is needed.
