Automatic Recount Procedures in Arizona
Arizona law mandates an automatic recount if the margin of victory is 0.5% or less of the total votes. Recounts validate small margin election results by re-tabulating ballots and occur only after official canvassing. The offices from the November General Election which triggered the recount are City of Page Councilmember (3rd seat) & Recall race for David Auge.

Is This a New Election?
No. A recount is not a new election. It is a re-tabulation of the ballots already cast to reaffirm the initial results. The process does not involve any new voting.

Who Can Initiate the Recounts?
Recounts begin automatically if the race falls within the statutory margin of 0.5%. The city of Page must file with the Superior Court to start the recount process. Recount tabulation begins after a court order is issued and the County conducts a Logic and Accuracy test.

How Are Automatic Recounts Conducted?
Recounts use the same equipment and methods as the original count and with additional oversight to ensure accuracy, including:

  • Pre-Logic and Accuracy Testing of equipment
  • Hand Audits
  • Post-Logic and Accuracy Testing

When Will the Recount Results Be Released and Made Official?
Unlike initial results, they are sealed and sent to the court, where a judge certifies them during a hearing as the official results.
