COCONINO COUNTY — Coconino County’s contractor is preparing to break ground on the second phase of a project to improve travel lanes and shoulders along Lake Mary Road.
The $1.7 million Lake Mary Road Mill & Fill Project: Phase 2 includes the milling of existing pavement and the subsequent installation of 1.5” Polymer Modified Asphalt Concrete along the travel lanes and road shoulders of two sections of Lake Mary Road totaling approximately 3.6 miles.
The first section of the project will run from approximately Milepost (MP) 332 south to MP 329. This section also will include repaving the acceleration lane from the Upper Lake Mary Boat Launch & Picnic Area. The second section will run from approximately MP 323 to MP 322. Both sections will then be restriped.
C & E Paving & Grading is scheduled to work weekdays during daylight hours with some weekend work possible. Traffic control will be in place to guide vehicles through the construction zone.
Drivers should expect delays, plan travel accordingly, and are encouraged to use extra caution and obey posted speed limits throughout the construction zone. Recreationists should be aware that the road shoulders in the project sections will be closed during construction.
This project is scheduled to be completed in April; however, this schedule is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen factors.
The $1.95 million first phase of this project, which replaced the existing pavement in travel lanes along the 6.4-mile stretch of Lake Mary Road from the Flagstaff city limits south to MP 332, was substantially completed last fall.
During the project, construction information will be regularly updated and posted on the project’s web page at www.coconino.az.gov/RoadProjects. For more information about this project please contact Public Works at 928-679-8300.
