This is a fundraiser for Northern Arizona Immigration Legal Services (NAILS), a group that provides free immigration services to members of the undocumented community. NAILS is free for clients, but NAILS pays attorneys so they need money in order to continue providing services. More info here: https://coconinoarts.org/event/northern-arizona-immigration-legal-services-presents-home-is-somewhere-else/

The donation is voluntary, however, not required, all are welcome! Also, the QR code on the attached poster goes to the NAILS web page so folks who are interested can make a donation even if they can’t make the event.

Before and/or after these events you are encouraged to check out Tom Kiefer’s exhibition, “El sueño americano,” photographs of migrants’ possessions that had been confiscated and thrown out by Border Patrol. It is a very compelling exhibit that offers a unique window into the issue of undocumented immigration!

Also, NAU students and faculty are invited to a free on campus screening of Home is Somewhere Else and a workshop with Carlos Hagerman. See info below:

The Creative Media and Film program and the Visual Communication program in the School of Communication are sponsoring a screening of “Home is Somewhere Else” and a workshop with director Carlos Hagerman on November 1st and November 2nd.

Workshop: Animation and Documentary, November 2nd, 3:30-5pm, Room 119, School of Communication at NAU.

“Home is Somewhere Else” is an animated feature documentary providing a window into the hearts and minds of immigrant youth and their undocumented families.

This documentary or “animentary” depicts three personal stories about immigrant youth to highlight the complexities and challenges they face today. Voiced by the actual children and their families, each story has its own unique visual animation style drawn by three different teams. The animation allows us to see and feel these characters’ worst nightmares and their colorful hopes and dreams for a better future. The film allows for a deep exploration of the characters’ inner worlds and offers a captivating approach to documentary storytelling through animation.

The film is directed by Carlos Hagerman and Jorge Villalobos.

87 minutes. Spanish and English. Not Rated.
