FLAGSTAFF — Finding Home: Stories of Belonging – Common Read & CCC Student Publications, to be presented from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 at the Coconino Community College Lone Tree Campus Commons.
Students, employees, and friends, please join Coconino Community College for our annual student publication reading.
Contributors of OnCourse and Curios will read their work and share stories of homecoming and belonging. The publications have adopted CCC’s Common Read book, Tribe by Sebastian Junger, as inspiration for this edition’s theme.
Keynote speaker Stacey Bare will share his story about addiction and PTSD and how he found his way home by developing a way to use nature and climbing to heal himself and help others.
Stacy Bare is a husband, father, skier, rafter, and climber and a veteran of the Iraq war. He also worked in land mine clearance with The HALO Trust in Angola and Abkhazia. He co-founded the Great Outdoors Lab (GO Lab) in 2014 to put scientifically defensible data behind the idea of time outside as healthcare. Stacy is a 2014 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. Through his project, Adventure Not War, he has helped put up new climbing routes in Angola, led a team of three veterans who completed a first ever ski descent of Mt. Halgurd in Iraq and led a ski and film expedition to Afghanistan. He runs Bare, LLC, a consulting firm helping organizations that are focused on connecting people and communities to nature. He is at home in Sandy, Utah with his partner and young daughter.
