FLAGSTAFF — NAU Latin American Studies and NAU No More Deaths will present three short documentaries about immigration directed by Roy Germano for Vice News at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at Liberal Arts 120.
“The documentaries are ‘Murder and Migration in Honduras’ (2014), ‘They Steal Our Jobs’ (2014) and ‘The High Cost of Deporting Parents’ (2014). We will be hosting a question and answer session with Roy Germano after the screening via Skype,” organizers reported.
- Murder and Migration in Honduras (2014) — An intrepid look into the increased numbers of unaccompanied Central American minors crossing into the United States. Vice News travels to San Pedro Sula, the most violent city in Honduras, to discover why so many young people would risk their lives to migrate to the United States. Run Time: 14:27
- They Steal Our Jobs? (2014) — By examining American dairy farms which often hire undocumented workers to do this grueling work that often Americans are not willing to do themselves, VICE news unravels the complex relationship between the United States economy and illegal migration. - The High Cost of Deporting Parents (2014) — Since elected into office, President Obama has deported more people than any other president. VICE news travels to Guatemala to tell the other and often forgotten story of deportation, that of the deported and their families. A Guatemalan father is deported back home, alone and unable to financially support his family, his loved ones struggle to make ends meet in the United States. Run Time: 25:02
