On Tuesday, April 4 at 4 pm in the International Pavilion, NAU Latin American Studies presents . . .
Brazilian-American author, Kathleen Azevedo will present “Samba Dreamers: The Making of a Brazilian American Novel.” Azevedo will discuss her novel Samba Dreamers (University of Arizona Press, 2006), the story of two Brazilians in America who wrestle with the myths of movies, politics, and the American Dream as they pursue each other in a destructive ill-fated relationship.
Kathleen de Azevedo teaches at Skyline College in San Bruno, California. She is the author of the novel Samba Dreamers, which was nominated for the Northern California Book Award and won a 2007 Pen Oakland Josephine Miles Award.
We’ll also serve light refreshments at this event and will likely have members from our Flagstaff samba collective Sambatuqué play a few rhythms. The bookstore will be present with copies of her novel and Azevedo will be delighted to sign them.
Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the NAU College of Arts and Letters, Latin American Studies, the Department of Global Languages. This presentation will be in English.
