March 23 — NAU Immigration Awareness Series: ‘Separate and Unequal: Deadly Neglect in Private Immigrant-Only Prisons’

FLAGSTAFF — No más muertes NAU / NAU No More Deaths, Student Activity Council and Latin American studies will present  the next Immigration Awareness Series event,  where Seth Freed Wessler, will speak on “Separate and Unequal: Deadly Neglect in Private Immigrant-only Prisons” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at LA120, Northern Arizona University.

Seth Freed Wessler has written extensively about the privatized immigrant-only prison system in the United States. He is an investigative reporter in New York focused on stories about immigration, punishment and inequality. He is a Senior Fellow at the Schuster Institute and a reporter for the Investigative Fund. His work focuses on how inequality and punishment structure American life.

Seth was a staff writer for NBCNews.com’s In Plain Sight and for Colorlines.com, and has reported for The Nation, ProPublica, This American Life, PRI’s The World, Elle Magazine, The Center for Investigative Reporting, and Al Jazeera. He was named a Soros Justice Media Fellow in 2014-2015, and won the Hillman Prize for web journalism and the Reporting Award from New York University, where he was a visiting scholar.
