FLAGSTAFF — Lloyd Hammonds has been elected for another term to the Coconino Community College District Governing Board.

Hammonds was sworn in during a small ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 11, at CCC in Page. Coconino Superintendent of Schools Risha VanderWey officiated, with about 20 people present, including Page’s new Mayor Levi Tappan, City of Page staff and CCC staff.

“It is an honor to begin a second term as a DGB member,” Hammonds said. “Community colleges are an integral part of the education, economic and cultural fabric of our county, state and country.”

Prior to beginning his service on the Governing Board in 2012, Hammonds was the Dean of CCC in Page from 1998 through 2012. He said that he has a strong personal commitment to the community college. Students can prepare for immediate employment, or they can earn the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. They also can better their current job skills, and students can do it at an affordable cost.

“Board member Hammonds has been dedicated to CCC and the students for two decades,” said CCC President Colleen A. Smith, Ph.D. “We are fortunate to have his expertise in higher education accreditation and his vast experience as a community college administrator. The faculty, students and staff are lucky to have him with us for another term. His level-headed and careful approach and his concern for excellence in teaching and learning will help keep CCC strong and viable for future generations.”

CCC District Governing Board members serve for six-year terms. Hammond’s district, District 5, covers the northern part of Coconino County, including the communities of Tuba City, Page and Fredonia.

“During my time at CCC, I have had the pleasure to get to know students and see them grow and achieve their goals and dreams,” Hammonds said. “This has been very personally satisfying to me.”
