A Prairie Home Companion kicks off its second season with Chris Thiele
Mandolin player Chris Thiele is a pretty busy guy. He’s recorded Bach with Yo Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer, jazz with pianist Brad Meldau and his own music with The Punch Brothers, his modernist string band. Between a busy recording schedule and extensive tour commitments, it’s a wonder he finds time to host A Prairie Home Companion, a gig he took over last year following a decades-long run by Garrison Keillor. Thiele has clearly found a home in Lake Wobegone, among strong women, good-looking men and exceptional children.
Thiele will be back for his second season of A Prairie Home Companion and has just announced his guests for the first three shows.
October 7th singer Chris Stapleton joins Thiele and his regulars: The First Call Radio Players and The Royal Academy of Radio Actors. A week later on October 14th New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band travels upriver to St. Paul to share the stage with Thiele and short-story master George Saunders. Then October 21st singer/songwriter/film composer Randy Newman brings his mordant wit and sardonic songs to the Fitzgerald Theater. You’ll want to make sure your radio is in optimal working order for all of these broadcasts.
Listen to A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thiele every weekend on Arizona Public Radio. Saturday evenings at six, Sunday morning at ten on KNAU News/Talk and Sunday evening at six on Classical KNAU. All of our broadcasts can be heard at our website,KNAU.org.
