Phoenix Rising
Join us Monday evening at seven for the season debut of The Phoenix Symphony on Symphony Night  from Classical KNAU.
The series of 13 broadcast concerts begins with Mozart’s “Requiem” and other selections March 12, continuing the following week with Gustav Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde,” and Haydn’s “Farewell Symphony.”
Phoenix Symphony Music Director Tito Munoz leads the orchestra on all but three of the broadcasts, with guest appearances by New York Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione, Phoenix Symphony Assistant Matthew Kasper and rising star Karina Canellakis, winner of the 2016 George Solti Conducting Award.

KNAU Summer Schedule Returns
With the return by most of the country to Daylight Saving Time this weekend, KNAU returns to the summer schedule Monday. Admittedly, the changes are subtle. During Morning Edition you’ll hear theMarketplace Morning Report at 5:50 amd 7:50. 1-A on KNAU News/Talk is now entirely on tape delay.Science Friday move back to 11am followed by Fresh Air at 1pm. You can still check the classical music schedule for the day, but remember that the schedule referenced is central time. You’ll need to compensate by adding a couple house to local time. Thank you for your patience and your support.
Brain Food: Female Film Directors
Frances McDormand won the Oscar for Best Actress Sunday for her performance in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” In her acceptance speech McDormand asked all the female nominees in the audience to stand—from actors, to directors, to writers. Learn more at KNAU.org.
Earth Notes: Raymond Bison Herd
They’re getting used to grazing on shortgrass instead of tallgrass, and will soon be searching for places to give birth to their young. A herd of bison is settling in for its first year in a new home at the Raymond Wildlife Area east of Flagstaff. Learn more at KNAU.org.
Drone Crash Sparks Wildfire Near Flagstaff
Authorities say a crashed drone sparked a wildfire northwest of Flagstaff that was contained after charring more than 300 acres. U.S. Forest Service officials say the fire began shortly after noon Tuesday, but crews stopped its spread by 5:30 p.m. at an estimated 335 acres (about half a square mile). Learn more at KNAU.org.
Flagstaff Students Discuss Gun Violence and Activism Post-Parkland
Teenagers across the country have become activists in the wake of last month’s shooting at a high school in Parkland Florida. They’ve marched on Washington and their state capitols, met with politicians and held walkouts demanding gun reform and better school safety. Learn more at KNAU.org.
