KNAU Christmas Specials Begin Monday December 11

The tradition continues with the best holiday music on the radio. The Christmas season has always provided inspiration to musicians and their listeners. Beginning Monday on Classical KNAU, we’ll sample these expressions of joy from the renaissance music to today. For the two weeks leading up the Christmas, we’ll give Performance Today a breather and present stories and songs of the season

At press time we’re still trying to nail down a few details. But we can tell you that we’ll have two hours of Tinsel Tales from NPR, revisit classics like “Sleigh Ride”from Leroy Anderson, hear some of the best jazz pianists in the world on “A Jazz Piano Christmas” (now in its 28th year).

We’ll go back in time for vocal music from the 17th century, celebrate the holidays with the Boston Brass and look back at how Christmas has been celebrated on the silver screen. Twenty hours of programming available only on public radio, plus much more during midday and overnight classical music programming. We’ll get all the details up on the website as soon as the programming elves tear themselves away from the eggnog.

Holiday specials will be heard Monday through Friday from seven to nine in place ofPerformance Today on Classical KNAU and available via our website KNAU.org
