July 15 — Mural Painting Party to Brighten Up Bushmaster Park

FLAGSTAFF — Put on some old clothes and head down to Bushmaster Park, located at 3150 N. Alta Vista Dr., for a “Mural Painting Party” Saturday, July 15. The Mural Mice are inviting the community to paint on the new mural that will be located on the restroom at the eastern end of the park. Feel free to drop in any time between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. This event marks the beginning of the community painting process, which the artists predict will take three weeks.

The design was composed by Mural Mice Universal, and is based on ideas and feedback gathered from the community at the park. It will be presented to the Beautification and Public Art Commission (BPAC) on July 10 and once the design has been approved, the painting begins. The mural depicts a young girl blowing bubbles. Each bubble contains a scene representing themes of gratitude, wisdom and aspirations.

Everyone regardless of painting experience is welcome to join in the paint by numbers effort, however the Mural Mice request that painters be at least six years old and up. The artists will be guiding the painting process and all paint and materials will be provided.

This project is funded by the City of Flagstaff’s BPAC with Bed, Board and Beverage (BBB) tax dollars.

The Mural Mice began painting community murals in 2005 and have projects throughout Arizona. Moving to Flagstaff in 2013, they have placed several large public murals including “Mother Myth,” on Phoenix Ave (Historic Rt.66), and the Orpheum’s, “Sound of Flight” in collaboration with Flagstaff artist, Sky Black. This is their first outdoor community mural in Flagstaff and they are excited to make it their most exciting project yet.
