Joint meeting on High Occupancy Housing on Nov. 8

FLAGSTAFF — A joint City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission citizen’s review session is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2017 at City Hall and is open to the public.

The draft High Occupancy Housing Specific Plan is the product of staff and the community taking a comprehensive look at the City’s plans, codes and policies to develop and improve ways in which High Occupancy Housing will be developed in the future. High Occupancy Housing generally refers to buildings that house more than 75 bedrooms per acre or have more than 30 units per acre in dormitory or apartment-style units.

Joint work sessions are typically reserved for highly complex and important community issues. “This work session is a unique opportunity for the public to address both the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council at the same time,” says Sara Dechter, the Comprehensive Planning Manager, “It’s a one-stop shop for those who have been following the high occupancy housing process and want a final chance to weigh in on the proposal.”

This draft plan had a 60-day public review period, which ended in Sept. Over the course of those 60-days, the project team received over 400 unique public comments. Comments ranged from issues of accessibility to preserving the view sheds of the San Francisco peaks. Staff has taken all comments received and incorporated many changes that came directly from this input. The latest draft will be available on the City of Flagstaff Website at http://www.flagstaff.az.gov/hohplan starting Nov. 3, 2017.

Following the meeting, staff will take the comments gathered along with direction provide by City Council, and Planning and Zoning Commission to make final edits to the draft plan. Staff will present the final plan to Planning and Zoning Commission in two public hearings, then it will proceed to City Council for approval and adoption in Feb. 2018. These meetings are scheduled for:

  • Planning and Zoning Commission, Public Hearing 1, 4:00 p.m., Dec. 13, 2017 at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, 1702 N Fourth St, Flagstaff, AZ 86004
