Who and Why are Secret Handshake?

Secret Handshake formed out of musical friends Julie Sullivan Brace and Cabell Breckinridge’s love of both really old and somewhat nerdy traditional music and full on contemporary folk rock music of their respective eras. The combined interests in these genres and each artists individual spin on how they interpret this music, gave birth to the duo’s unique sound and repertoire. Audiences will appreciate familiar songs to sing along with in “folked up” interpretations by The Beatles; Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; David Bowie; the Moody Blues; Tom Petty and more. This music is juxtaposed in their set list with bluegrass, old time folk classics and even some 40s swing from the likes of The Carter Family, Bill Monroe, Bob Dylan, the Lovin’ Spoonful, and other favorites from decades past.

Both adept and versatile acoustic guitar players and singers, Secret Handshake delivers tight harmonies and tasty licks, sprinkling in some of Julie’s original compositions to spice up the mix. Secret Handshake has a loyal following in Flagstaff and is thrilled to branch out and welcome in a newer audience from Sedona and beyond. See them perform at Sedona Arts Center, Wednesday April 6 from 4 to 6 pm.

Celebrate Sedona was specifically designed for the Arts Center be more connected locally. We are so excited about bringing more people to our campus – those who would not typically attend one or our events, classes or programs.  We want to introduce what we do to our entire community in a casual, engaging way that is all about fun.  So local musicians, food, wine and beer, artist demos, and more, will be available.  Some of our events will be themed to whatever is going on in the community, our programming, or tied to an upcoming holiday.  This event is free and open to everyone – so please come take a look. We would love to have you!
