I-40 and Meteor Crater Bridge closed between Flagstaff and Winslow Nov. 30 – Dec. 5

Drivers should plan for delays and restrictions through June 2021
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan ahead for the upcoming closure of Interstate 40 and the Meteor Crater Bridge – about 30 miles east of Flagstaff – as work begins on the bridge rehabilitation project.

ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place:

  • East- and westbound I-40 will be closed at Meteor Crater Road from 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4.
    • Detour: Drivers will use the on- and off-ramps at the I-40/Meteor Crater Road interchange to exit and re-enter the highway.
    • A 15-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
  • Meteor Crater Road will be closed between the east- and westbound on- and off-ramps from 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
    • Detour from westbound I-40 to southbound Meteor Crater Road: Exit at Two Guns Road (milepost 230) and then re-enter the highway eastbound and exit at Meteor Crater Road.
    • Detour from northbound Meteor Crater Road to westbound I-40: Drive eastbound on I-40 and exit at Meteor City Road. Re-enter the highway to proceed westbound on I-40.
    •  A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
  • Meteor Crater Bridge will be narrowed to one lane of alternating traffic beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, through June 2021. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
    • Vehicles with weight more than 5 tons per axle will be detoured around the bridge through June 2021 as follows:
      • Westbound I-40 to southbound Meteor Crater Road: Drive westbound on I-40 and exit at Two Guns Road (milepost 230). Re-enter the highway driving eastbound I-40 and exit at Meteor Crater Road to proceed southbound.
      • Northbound Meteor Crater Road to westbound I-40: Drive eastbound on I-40 and exit at Meteor City Road (milepost 240). Re-enter the highway to drive westbound on I-40.
      • A 10-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
