FLAGSTAFF — The audience was treated to a creative mixture of contemporary Andean music by the Colombian musical trio Hojarasca, which performed on Oct. 1, 2013 at Gathering Room of the Native American Cultural Center at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff.
The trio, directed by Lucas Rodas, blends modern musical compositions with traditional indigenous instruments such as the guitar, quena (flute), ocarina, zampoña (panpipes), charango and percussion. Hojarasca gives a voice to their Andean and Colombian culture by fusing modern and classical sounds.
The event was sponsored by Latin American Studies with the Center for International Studies, Department of Comparative Cultural Studies, Department of Global Languages and Cultures, NAU School of Music, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and the Center for Indigenous Music and Culture.
