FLAGSTAFF — The Mayor and City Council of Flagstaff have named Greg Clifton as the new City Manager. Clifton’s start date is set for August 26th, 2019. Clifton participated in an open and competitive recruitment that attracted over 50 candidates.

“After a competitive recruitment, we are excited to welcome our new City Manager, Greg Clifton and his wife Tammy to Flagstaff. Throughout the process his experience, professionalism, attitude, and vision resonated with all involved. We look forward to working with Greg to make Flagstaff an even greater place to live, work, and play. We want to extend our thanks to the community for all their feedback on this recruitment. We are grateful to our current City Manager, Barbara Goodrich, and wish her the best in retirement,” said the Mayor and City Council.

Clifton has worked at the municipal level for the past 25 years throughout western Colorado. He served as city attorney for the city of Montrose for several years, followed by tenures as town manager for Ridgway, Telluride, and Vail, respectively. While serving in Telluride, he was awarded the Manager of the Year by the Colorado City and County Manager Association.

Clifton has had numerous involvements in statewide organizations related to his profession, including several years with the Colorado Municipal League, where he served as president in 2001, and the Colorado Association of Ski Towns, where he served as president over this past year. He was a founding member of the statewide Youth Corps Association, and a consortium of local governments that has successfully advocated for climate action policy.  His spouse, Tammy, is a hospice nurse, and they have two children, Travis and Emily.

“We are so excited to make the move to Arizona, and I cannot wait to start my service with the City and become a part of the Flagstaff community.  It is an amazing place, and I am truly honored to serve in this capacity,” said Greg Clifton.
