Update on Mogollon Public Works Yard

Council is encouraging staff to work with the neighborhood around the property to find a way to incorporate a few units of attractive affordable housing that would blend into the neighborhood affordable housing onto the site. F3 strongly encourages this direction and sees this as the first of many conversations about making Open Space and Affordable Housing inclusive of one another.  One neighborhood resident present said they were open to this idea and Mayor Evans stressed that the conversations had to happen with neighborhood residences present at the “drawing board.” Vice Mayor Whelan was the first to suggest the idea during the discussion last Tuesday with most other council members in agreement.

Livable Community Award goes to Charlie Silver and Duffie Westheimer and The Townsite Historic Properties Land Trust

The Townsite Historic Properties Community Land Trust is dedicated to “Promoting historic preservation and community investment with permanently affordable owner-occupied homes.”

Duffie and Charlie have worked tirelessly within our community for decades. They are so dedicated to their non-profit work that when presented with this award, they were insistent that the award be not about them, but about The Townsite Historic Properties Community Land Trust.

On the evening of the Gala, Charlie and Duffie were attending a National Land Trust Convention. Cody and Eric who are both on the Land Trust board accepted the award on their behalf.

Request for changes in the Resource Protection Standards
of the Zoning Ordinance

CONSERVATION STUDY FORUM INTRODUCTION

The Conservation Study Forum (CSF) is requesting that within 8 months (if possible) planning staff bring to Council amendments to the Resource Protection Standards of the Zoning Code that will implement the Flagstaff Regional Plan 2030 sections on natural features, specifically seeps and springs, rock outcrops, wildlife linkages, and prairie dogs.

While CSF recognizes that staff has a heavy workload, our group believes that amending the Zoning Code to implement the natural and cultural resources policies in the Regional Plan is important to the community and will improve the overall quality of new development.  CSF is prepared to assist staff in drafting amendments to the code.

We are a group of scientists, land managers, and interested citizens with diverse backgrounds proposing to assist staff with the implementation of the regional plan.  Our group is very sensitive to private property rights and is making every effort to be fair and evenhanded with these amendments to ensure that they improve rather than hinder development.

What is Giving Tuesday?

*image and information from www.givingtuesday.com.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community. We’ve created a directory to help you find organizations, charities, events and more in your own community.
