BAIL AND BOND FUND – HELPING FLAGSTAFF’S MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS
Immediately following the federal election in 2016, F3 created the Social Justice Committee (SJC). Through the SJC we held a series of large public forums to discuss and justice-related issues impacting our Flagstaff community. One of those issues was immigration and undocumented community members. One action taken by F3, and in consultation with our community partners (Together We Will, Keep Flagstaff Together, and Repeal Coalition), we have created the Bail and Bond Fund. This fund allows F3 to provide reimbursement to individuals who put up the bail or bond for people arrested due to their immigration status.

On Monday, August 21st, an undocumented single mother with three dependent children, all of whom are Flagstaff residents, was arrested by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officers. Members of Keep Flagstaff Together posted her bail, and F3 provided funds donated by Together We Will to reimburse those who posted her bail so she could continue working to provide for her children. Now, with Joe Arpaio being pardoned by President Trump, the need is becoming quite dire for undocumented people in Flagstaff.

F3 is asking you to make a donation to our bail and bond fund, and help us assist those at risk of deportation.

Go to http://www.friendsofflagstaff.org/join/ and click on the purple “Make a Donation” tab. Below the “Make a One Time or Monthly Donation,” fill out the form, making sure to write “Bail and Bond Fund” in the comments box before hitting SEND.

– F3 Board Secretary, Mike Caulkins
We anticipate this will be a long process and that there will be many opportunities to weigh in as the staff and council develop an approach to these revisions.
