FLAGSTAFF — The city of Flagstaff is conducting regulary planned updates to its building and fire codes. This effort allows the city to update the 2012 codes that are currently used to the recommended 2018 code.
There will be two public Open Houses regarding these updates will be held in February and the public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback. The current code editions, proposed code editions, as well as current and proposed amendments will be provided. The first Open House is Feb. 5, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Murdoch Center (203 E Brannen Ave, Flagstaff, AZ 86001). The second will be held Feb. 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aquaplex (1702 N Fourth St, Flagstaff, AZ 86004). Staff will be availble to answer questions and receive feedback.
Building codes are intended to protect the public and to set a minimum standard for building design. For example, building codes include requirements for fire protection, structural sufficiency, air quality, usability, accessibility and energy efficiency. The codes are designed to anticipate the everyday needs of occupants, as well as emergency procedures in case something goes wrong, such as a fire. The updates are schedules ensure local building codes keep up with continued advancements in building science and technology.
