FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) runway will be closed for maintenance from midnight on July 9 until midnight on July 15, 2023. During this time, commercial passenger service and fixed-wing aircraft operations will be unavailable. However, helicopter operations will continue uninterrupted. Pavement maintenance work will be completed in partnership with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Airport Pavement Management System program.
The runway was previously repaved in 2017, and asphalt pavement requires regular sealing to maximize the life of the surface. The materials being applied to the runway have specific temperature requirements and must be applied in dry conditions. The project team selected the closure dates to provide the highest likelihood of completing the project without additional delays due to weather. Airport staff regularly coordinates maintenance activities with tenants and businesses, including providing at least 6-months’ notice for runway closures to air carriers.
“The upcoming maintenance work is critical to protect the runway and extend the life of the pavement. Making this work a priority now ensures that our runway remains safe, in compliance, and prevents longer or unplanned closures in the future. Flagstaff’s runway is the equivalent of more than ten miles of two-lane roadway, and we’ve worked with our partners at ADOT to reduce the duration of the closure as much as possible while ensuring the work can be completed in the specified time” stated Brian Gall, Flagstaff Pulliam Airport Director. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of the community and travelers during this time and look forward to welcoming back commercial service and our general aviation partners when the work is complete.”
Passengers who have booked travel in or out of FLG during this period and have not received a revised itinerary should contact American Airlines directly at 1-800-433-7300.
