FLAGSTAFF — Organizers reported that more than 400 people crowded in front of the Flagstaff City Hall as part of a “Families Belong Together” rally to protest current U.S. family detention policies along the U.S./Mexico border.
Members of Keep Flagstaff Together, the Repeal Coalition, Friends of Flagstaff’s Future, the Coconino County Democratic Party, and other groups participated in the demonstration on Saturday, June 30. Receiving occasional car horn of support from passing drivers, with a small smattering of obscenities, the protesters carried a variety of signs supporting efforts to keep immigrant families together as they apply for asylum.
With protesters carrying signs saying “I Really Do Care,” “Immigrants Welcomed Here,” “Families Belong Together,” “Where’s My Mommy, Daddy?” and dolls in cages, with individuals wrapped in silver space blankets similar to Central American children at the border detention centers, the event was one of hundreds of similar protests held nationwide.
A video of the rally was posted HERE.
