FLAGSTAFF — Dozen of students took part in the 2017 Flagstaff High School Hispanic Convocation held May 16 at the school’s Hurley Theatre.
The event included opening remarks by Principal Tony Cullen and graduating student Tony Para; the invocation by Pastor Carlos Mendez of Harvest Christian Fellowship; the keynote address by Math teacher Solomon Duran and the presentation of the traditional colorful graduation sashes to the students.
Duran spoke about the history of education of Hispanics in Northern Arizona.
More than 70 students were listed in the convocation program.
The event was sponsored by District 2 Supervisor Liz Archuleta; District 1 Supervisor Art Babbott; District 4 Supervisor Jim Parks; Mike and Sarah Cromer; Someburros Mexican Food and the Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council (CHAC).
Flagstaff will hold its annual graduation at 3 p.m. Friday, June 2 at the NAU J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome.
