FLAGSTAFF — The City of Flagstaff is excited to invite the community to weigh in on three designs under consideration to become the new city logo. A short poll and survey will be open until January 11, 2025 and can be accessed at flagstaff.az.gov/logo
The City of Flagstaff and the NAU VisualDESIGN Lab have been working since the summer of 2024 to create and refine a design that represents not just the City of Flagstaff’s organization, but also the history, culture, and values of the Flagstaff community as a whole. The process began with over 100 sketches and using prior community input, the designs were refined into three distinct designs, shown below.
This concept portrays a unique, whimsical, and clean landscape icon featuring the famous dark skies of Flagstaff, speckled with stars, arching over the San Francisco Peaks. It is paired with a clean and professional typeface to evoke the official nature of a city logo.
City Logo Concept 2
This concept blends Flagstaff’s iconic San Francisco Peaks and Ponderosa pine forest into a sleek design. Star and circle motifs highlight its dark skies, snowy winters, and ties to astronomy. Seven stars and branches symbolize life at 7,000 feet, with modern typography, adding a professional touch.
City Logo Concept 3
This concept blends two iconic aspects of Flagstaff: the San Francisco Peaks and its renowned dark sky designation. These are depicted through tree rings symbolizing the community’s diversity and the City’s natural landscape.
The City’s partnership with thee NAU VisualDESIGN Lab provides a unique opportunity where the City is able to procure a professional design at no cost to the City. An additional component of this project will include repurposing the current City Logo as the City seal. This will ensure that the important history and symbolism of the existing logo is preserved and continued to be utilized in an appropriate way.
