FLAGSTAFF — The Flagstaff Commission on Diversity Awareness announces a public forum for community input on September 20, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall (211 W. Aspen).
The city of Flagstaff appointed the City Commission on Diversity Awareness to advise the City on issues and methods related to promoting diversity and diversity awareness. The Commission meets once per month with the purpose of fostering mutual understanding, tolerance, respect and awareness among all citizens within the City of Flagstaff.
The Commission on Diversity Awareness is endowed with duties that include, but are not limited to:
- Cooperate and advise in the development of educational programs dedicated to improvement of community relations.
- Develop recommendations for the Mayor and City Council to assist in any policies required to respond to the concerns and needs of those in the community.
- Develop and provide public forums for identifying and discussing issues of interest relating to diversity awareness.
- Act as an information or referral group to assist individuals, organizations and employers to aid the community towards greater understanding and respect.
The upcoming public forum is to allow individuals to speak on any issue within its jurisdiction during the call to the public. Per Arizona open meeting laws, the commission will not discuss matters raised during the call to the public. However, the commission will listen and may place any matter on a future agenda for discussion.
