Flagstaff City Council passes resolution opposing uranium mining and transportation

FLAGSTAFF — Flagstaff’s City Council adopted Resolution 2017-38 at their meeting on Nov. 7 opposing uranium mining and the transportation of uranium ore through the City of Flagstaff and Indigenous lands and reaffirming Flagstaff as a Nuclear Free Zone.

“The City Council sent a loud message tonight reaffirming our values and standing up for what we believe in,” said Mayor Coral Evans. “We recognize that this resolution is the first of many steps necessary to effect real and lasting change.”

The Council also committed to adding opposition to mining and transport of uranium ore to their state and federal legislative priorities.
