The Downtown and East Flagstaff Community Libraries will be CLOSED Wed. June 19th in honor of Juneteenth.
Adult & All-Ages Events
Art as resistance with Jihan Gearon & Ed Kabotie. Join us for a talk about art and environmental justice with Jihan Gearon— an indigenous feminist, painter, writer, and organizer— and Ed Kabotie—a Hopi & Tewa artist, musician, and educator. Mon. June 17th at 6:00pm in the Downtown Library Community Room. Environmental Justice & B.I.P.O.C Communities series.
Movie & Discussion: Necessity: Oil, Water & Climate Resistance. This documentary traces the fight against the expansion of pipelines carrying toxic tar sands oil through Native lands. Join us for a showing and discussion of the documentary. June 18th, 5:30-7:30pm in the Downtown Library Community Room. Environmental Justice & B.I.P.O.C Communities series.
Arizona Water Use from Prehistory to the Present. Presented by Jim Turner. We will discuss how Indigenous communities altered their physical environment and developed a belief system in harmony with it and look at water use legislation over more than three centuries. Thursday, June 20, 6:00-7:30pm Downtown Library. Environmental Justice & B.I.P.O.C Communities series.

Southwest Reads Book Club. Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey on July 24th.  Coming soon: No Spiritual Surrender by Klee Benally on September 25th. 4th Wednesday of every other month at 6:00pm Downtown Library Community Room.
Banned Book Club: The Outsiders. Tuesday Aug 6th, from 6 to 7pm in the Downtown Library Community Room. Gang violence. Drug use. Family dysfunction. Join us to discuss the novel as well as the concepts of free speech and censorship as we encounter them today.
Youth Events
Summer Reading Challenge 2024. It’s Rocket Science. We’re going to make some rockets and learn some science! Ages 7+. Monday June 17th 1:30 pm. Adventure Begins at Your Library.
Adventure begins at your library 2024. Paws to Read. Sign up to read to a real therapy dog! Come to Youth Services, in person, to sign your child up for a reading time. This program is for kids reading independently. June 12th - July 24th. Mondays 2:00 - 4:00pm, Wednesdays 1:00 - 3:00pm. 20 minute sessions. Downtown Library
2024 Crafty Corner. TUESDAYS, 10AM. Ages 3+. JUNE 18TH AND JULY 2ND. Express your creativity at the East Flagstaff Community Library. JULY 16TH. Meet us at the Community Ramada at Bushmaster Park’s east entrance for a fun outdoor crafting experience!
TWEENS! Summer Splash Olympics 2024. Ages 8-12. June 18th @ 1:30pm. Outside on the back lawn. Water balloons & games. Bring a towel and wear sunscreen, because you're gonna get wet!
Adventure Begins at Your Library 2024. Kids Book Club. Suggested Ages 7+. Book Club participants: Step 1: pick up a free copy of this book at the Downtown Library or East Flagstaff Community Library Step 2: read the book Step 3: join us for snacks, games, discussion, and a chance to talk to the author (virtually). Pick up your book starting June 1st. Author Talk with Brian Young. Healer of the Water Monster by Navajo author and American Indian Library Association Youth Literature Award winner, Brian Young. Adventure Begins at Your Library. Fairy House Building. Join us outside the Downtown Library for a story about fairy houses and build your own fairy house. Thursday June 20th @ 1:30 PM. Ages 5-12. Bring your own natural items: sticks, shells, moss, stones, etc.
SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2024. Adventure begins at your library. Friday Flicks. Fridays: craft @ 1:30 pm, movie @ 2:00 pm. This week's movie is Alice in Wonderland, June 14. Downtown Library Community Room.

Free Technology Instruction and Resume Help. 30-minute,one-on-one instruction sessions available for help with introductory software, creating email accounts, downloading eBooks, résumé development, online job applications, and more.
