W.L. Gore & Associates has been making an impact on Flagstaff as the city’s largest corporate employer and a committed community member for the past half century.
For 21 of those years, the company also has been named as one of the top 100 places to work by Fortune magazine. In the recently released 2020 listing, Gore ranked #83.
Turnover is only 3% at the company, which employs 2,300 associates in Flagstaff and 7,760 worldwide. Nine out of 10 call Gore a great place to work, compared to six out of 10 employees at a typical company.

Much of this is due to a corporate culture that eschews hierarchy and instead has “associates” and “leaders” working in teams to collaborate and build connections without the constraints of traditional chains of command. Each employee is paired with a sponsor for support and development.
In Arizona, Gore’s focus is its medical product line, including vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices and surgical meshes. In addition to the Flagstaff campus, the company also has operations in Phoenix and Tempe. The company is expanding its Phoenix campus and modernizing its Flagstaff facilities.
Gore’s impact is felt deeply in our community because of its corporate commitment to nonprofits and education. All associates are eligible for up to eight hours of paid time off to volunteer and can apply annually for up to $500 in grant money for a non-profit organization of their choice.
In Flagstaff, Gore has been a big supporter of the United Way of Northern Arizona and a sponsor of the annual Festival of Science held in the fall and designed to inspire the next generation with the joys of scientific discovery.
