African Diaspora Advisory Council to Host “Democracy in Action Voter Town Hall” Monday
The Coconino County African Diaspora Advisory Council (ADAC) is hosting a free, virtual Democracy in Action Voter Town Hall this Monday, October 19 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Town Hall will feature Coconino County Recorder Patty Hansen presenting on the elections calendar, voting options and procedures, what documents are required to vote and other resources for residents of Coconino County. The event is not a candidate debate but rather an opportunity for residents to learn about safeguards to ensure their right to vote and the voting process is secure.
“Democracy in Action means exercising our rights, and voting is a right that we must exercise,” Breyaunna Smith, Chair of the African Diaspora Advisory Council stated. “At this town hall, we look forward to providing information that voters need, and we hope all residents of the County will join us.”
The event is free and open to the public and will feature contests and prizes for those who join. Doney Park Timberline Fernwood Area Plan Committee Seeks Community Input
An update to the 2001 Doney Park Timberline Fernwood area plan is underway. The area plan is as an amendment to the Coconino County Comprehensive Plan that reflects residents’ vision of the future. It contains goals and policies and provides guidance for decision-makers reviewing land use projects such as conditional use permits, rezoning requests and subdivisions.
To accomplish this update, Supervisors Liz Archuleta and Jim Parks invited a 13-member committee comprised of area residents, as well as business and property owners to work with Coconino County staff to update the existing plan. The initiative began in January 2020 with informational sessions presented to the committee by numerous subject matter experts on topics specific to the planning area. Topics ranged from archaeological and historic background, the transportation system, parks, recreation, open spaces, land use and zoning.
The informational phase concluded in August and the committee is now seeking input through a community survey. The survey is intended to further inform the process with insight into the community’s perceptions and vision for the future, and to understand today’s community interests, characteristics, needs and issues. Results of the survey will guide future development in the area.
Residents of the area, as well as business and property owners are invited to provide their feedback through the survey which can be found here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DPTFsurvey. The survey will close on October 31, 2020.
