Coconino County’s Sustainable Building Tour is This Saturday
The Coconino County Sustainable Building Program will host the Superpowers of Sustainable Building Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, September 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in partnership with the Flagstaff Festival of Science. In order to keep the public safe during this time and to maintain physical distancing guidelines, the scavenger hunt will be a self-guided tour with no or very limited human interaction. Participants will not be touring the inside of buildings, but instead, they will look for sustainable features from the outside or via information found online, such as retrofitted historic homes, construction with innovative design and materials, passive solar buildings, homes with exceptional indoor air quality and houses with extensive water conservation measures. The Coconino County Sustainable Building Program anticipates this new format to be a fun and interactive way for participants to discover the community’s sustainable building super strengths while remaining safe.
The scavenger hunt includes seventeen homes and properties, each with a highlighted sustainable building ‘superpower’ attribute. The Tour’s content will be accessible in a variety of ways in order to be inclusive and allow for flexibility, whether it’s completely virtual, completely in person, or a mixture of both. Photos and information on each building can be found online via the Sustainable Building Program’s website or from the tour packet. A scannable QR code can be found at each site and will direct participants to the website. Downloadable tour packets will be available the day of the tour or can be picked up in person.
This is the Sustainable Building Tour’s 15th year and attracts people throughout county and the state. The Tour provides attendees with perspectives from homeowners, builders, and designers about the living practices, costs, methods, and economic and environmental benefits of building sustainably. Homes and buildings involved in the Sustainable Building Program are models for resource efficiency in the built environment, and can provide valuable learning experiences for potential homeowners, builders, architects, designers, and anyone else interested in sustainable development.
The self-guided tour begins at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore of Northern Arizona where tour packets will be available. Tour packets can also be downloaded online. For more information, or to download the Tour packet, visit www.coconino.az.gov/sustainablebuilding .
7 days left to fill out the 2020 Census!
There are just seven days remaining to complete the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau will complete their counting efforts on September 30.
Coconino County urges all residents to complete the Census which can be done in less than 10 minutes. The Census can be completed in a variety of ways, including online at https://my2020census.gov/ or by calling 1-844-330-2020. The current self-response rate in Coconino County is 45.2% as of today, while the rest of Arizona is at 63.2%.
It is imperative that community members complete the Census to ensure that Coconino County receives federal funding for important initiatives such as healthcare, roads, and housing, as well as school and community programs. The Census also determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives. In order for Coconino County to thrive, residents must complete the Census and be counted.
Coconino County and the City of Flagstaff are hosting a Public Telephone Town Hall to answer questions about the 2020 Census efforts on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:30PM. Individuals can register for the Town Hall here: https://bit.ly/2RLQSQU.
COVID-19 Daily Dashboard
As of September 23, 2020
Coconino County COVID-19 data reporting is changing to include positive antigen tests in the confirmed/probable case category on the County’s Data Dashboard and Snapshot. This change is consistent with the updated national case definition for COVID-19 from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and recently adopted by the Arizona Department of Health Services. This change in classification of cases is a surveillance tool used to better understand the burden of disease in the community, and to align with state data dashboards.
Antigen tests, not to be confused with serologic (or antibody) tests, can detect if a person is currently infected. These point-of-care tests, also used for viral infections like influenza or bacterial infections like strep throat, play an important role in certain settings such in healthcare facilities or in situations where rapid results are necessary.
Here is the information as of 09/23/2020:
Saliva-based COVID-19 Testing Available
