A Cultural Perspective on the Moon
December 12th, 6:00
Coconino Community College, Lone Tree Campus
Museum of Northern Arizona Artist in Residence, Ed Kabotie, will perform original music, and share cultural perspectives about the moon from his Puebloan heritage.
Ed Kabotie is from the Hopi village of Shungopavi and the Tewa village of Khap’o Owinge (Santa Clara Pueblo). He is currently artist in residence at the Museum of Northern Arizona. Ed comes from a notable artistic heritage on his Hopiside, and carries on this tradition as both a painter and silversmith. His Tewa grandfather, Edward P. Dozier, was a notable anthropologist whose example has inspired Ed to both research and teach on Native American culture and history. Ed is also an accomplished musician. His five solo albums feature multi-instrumental compositions(Native Flute, Guitar, Percussion) with trilingual (English, Hopi, Tewa) vocals that “speak to the journey of life”.
